Ant and Dec set to storm National Television Awards despite late illness blow

Ant and Dec are tipped to do very well at Thursday night's National Television Awards, despite not being able to attend the London event, due to testing positive for Covid.

On Wednesday morning, it was revealed that the much loved Geordie hosts had 'pulled out of all work commitments' after both falling sick, with their Saturday Night Takeaway co-star Stephen Mulhern called into replace them as presenter of Britain's Got Talent's special The Ultimate Magician. News that Ant and Dec had been struck down by a 'sudden illness ' sparked concern amongst their fans and, it was the lads themselves that offered an explanation later in the day, revealing they'd both contracted coronavirus.

Posting a photo of two positive tests, the lads wrote: "Sadly it's true, we even get ill together! After feeling unwell a few days ago, we both tested and we're positive for Covid." They added: "We're resting up at home and are sorry that we can't be at the @officialntas. Best of luck everyone and get well soon to everyone else in the same boat."

While they won't actually be at the NTAs on Thursday evening, it looks like they'll still have a night to remember as they are 'dead certs' to win Best Presenter for the 21st time in a row, on odds of 8/13 with the duo also set to take home Best Entertainment, for either I'm A Celebrity or Saturday Night Takeaway, as both shows are in the running for that trophy.

Although winning Best Presenter has become a tradition for Ant and Dec, they never ever take the success for granted. In their acceptance speech at last year's NTAs, Dec said: "So much has changed in our lives since then but one that that hasn't changed is that you take time year after year to vote for us and put us up here."
