Ant and Dec's nod to Newcastle United in Saturday Night Takeaway Rylan prank

Ant and Dec made a reference to Newcastle United in their latest undercover prank on Saturday Night Takeaway.

Rylan Clark thought he would be filming content for a Eurovision channel, but the Geordie duo promised everything would be as "annoying is possible." His manager and make-up artist were in on the joke during a top-secret filming day, which culminated in him introducing a new Eurovision act.

After not being able to get into the building at the beginning of the day, he spent time executing Belgian "digital maverick" Tom's "fresh and funky" ideas in front of a green screen. These involved leaning on a man in a green morph suit as a substitute for the Leaning Tower of Pisa and "riding" the man as he lay on a skateboard to double up as a motorbike.

However, it was the introduction of Armenia's upcoming Eurovision entry where things got really wild. The song Wing in Wing was sung in English, while backing vocalists chanted "this is all a prank" in Armenian.

So far, so Eurovision, until the pyrotechnics caused one of the band members' costumes to set on fire. Thankfully, like the song said, it was all a prank, and Rylan seemed both shocked and relieved when he saw Ant and Dec behind him, having removed their masks.

And that was where the nod to their beloved hometown football club came in. For the song, Ant and Dec were both dressed as magpies playing keytars behind the singer.

Back in the studio, Rylan revealed that he had no idea that anything was amiss because Eurovision is "odd" anyway, with Norway's entry from last year doing a similar performance. He also revealed that he speaks Spanish, and that he'd been given lines to say in his second language, with him knowing exactly what he was saying.

He told Ant and Dec: "After working on Eurovision, none of it (was weird). Riding the man wasn't a chore, but it wasn't a choice!

Rylan posted on his Twitter account: "Never using a green screen again. #SaturdayNightTakeaway".

"I knew what I was saying because I can speak Spanish, so I didn't think I was saying anything dodgy!"

And the prank went down well with those watching on Twitter, with visitors describing it as funny and hilarious, and praising Rylan's professionalism. One said: "He was brilliant, and no matter how bizarre the request, he was a total pro. Wonderful stuff."

Another said: "Awww, Rylan brilliant, great sport," while a third added: "Rylan so professional and so funny #rylan #SaturdayNightTakeaway#antanddec.
