A mother and son playing Ant and Dec’s Limitless Win game are on course tonight to win British telly’s record cash prize.
Tracey-Jane and Troy Beaumont reach the highest ever position on the show’s unlimited money ladder, climbing to more than £1million.
The Doctor Who superfans from Liverpool even get a good luck message from the tenth Timelord David Tennant before answering questions that could add up to a pot of gold.
Host Dec said of the nail-biting end to the second series: “We got very giddy as we’ve never been that far up the ladder before. The excitement in the studio was electric.”
Players answer numerical questions on topics including sports, TV and film and bank cash for right answers.
To remain in the game their answer can’t be above the correct figure. A lower than correct answer loses lives, but if they have lives left they climb the ladder.
When the ITV show launched Ant said: “It’s the first limitless jackpot. That’s what hooked us in.”
Troy, 23, and Tracey-Jane, 58, went on hoping to win enough for a trip to America.
They told hosts Ant and Dec they’re best pals, with Troy saying: “We’re basically the same person”. Tracey added: “We love living together.”
In order to remain in the game they are not allowed to answer with a number over the correct answer, or run out of lives.
Contestants lose lives if they submit a number lower than the correct answer, with the amount of lives taken off being the difference between their answer and the correct one.
As long as you keep below the correct answers and have lives intact you stay in the game and climb the ladder, hoping to then get a correct answer to bank big money.
When the show was first launched Ant said: "What makes our show different is, it’s the world’s first limitless jackpot, that’s the selling point for us and that’s what hooked us in, the fact that there’s no top prize."
