Ant and Dec's I'm a Celebrity upset over 'unexpected' exit as show wields axe

Ant and Dec have admitted to being upset by what transpired on Friday night's I'm A Celebrity as Shaun Ryder and Gillian McKeith became the first two All Stars to be sent packing.

Millions of ITV viewers saw the Geordie hosts wander into the South African camp to drop the bombshell that two of the cast would be sent home at the end of the first Survival Trial of the new series, with Ant and Dec, who admitted they were nervous about the twist, explaining that three celebrities would compete in the challenge, with each picking another celebrity to do it with them.

And then there was shock amongst the campmates when Ant and Dec delivered the big blow, that the pair who lost the trial would be leaving the camp for good.

The pairs taking part in the trial ended up being former nemesis from I'm A Celebrity 2010 Shaun and Gillian, Andy Whyment and Jordan Banjo, Phil Tufnell and Georgia Toffolo, with all of them tasked with freeing themselves from each other in the quickest time possible,

The celebs had to spanners from boxes filled with various creatures to loosen the chains, with Jordan and Andy making light work of the test, as Gillian absolutely petrified by having to reach into a box containing snakes.

That proved costly and resulted in Shaun and Gillian being given the chop and, as they posted a selfie of themselves with the eliminated campmates, from when filming took place back in the autumn, Ant and Dec admitted they were shocked and saddened by the result.

Posting on their social media accounts, the I'm A Celebrity presenters wrote: "Here's a selfie we didn't see coming. New pals Gillian and Shaun are first to leave camp," adding a crying emoji to highlight their upset.

In the aftermath of the trial, Shain was asked if he regretted choosing Gillian to be his partner, to which he replied: "A little bit… but she’s my mate now and I can’t slag my mate off."
