Ant and Dec Ofcom complaints blasted by fans as 59 viewers condemn drag performance

Ant and Dec fans have condemned the 59 people who contacted Ofcom to complain about the lads' drag makeover on Saturday Night Takeaway.

As the award winning ITV show returned for a new series at the weekend, its Geordie hosts were joined by RuPaul, the first Star Guest Announcer for 2022 and the three Drag Race UK winners to date - The Vivienne, Lawrence Cheney and Krystal Versace.

After the trio had all performed their verses of new track We Werk Together, the arrivals of 'two new queens' was teased, before Ant and Dec made their entrance to the stage in the new glamorous guises of Lady Antoinette and Miss Donna Lee.

Millions of jaws hit the floor as the presenters lip synced and strutted for their lives and, as the song finished, many viewers flocked to Twitter, not only to praise Ant and Dec for how amazing they looked, but also the empowering message of their performance.

However, broadcasting regulator Ofcom have now revealed that they have so far received 59 complaints about the performance.

A total of 71 grievances have been made about the first Saturday Night Takeaway of 2022, with a handful in relation to Jeremy Clarkson's Undercover prank.

There has been an online backlash to those who've complained against the Ant and Dec/Drag Race UK collaboration, with one viewer ranting: "Can't believe people have complained to OFCOM over this... Really?? It was amazing!! The only complaint I had was where was @StephenMulhern in drag??!! Missed a trick there!"

A second reacted: "I hear 59 people complained to Ofcom about @antanddec performance. But we keep moving forward - one less complaint at a time. Two great guys part of a change with a performance that meant something far more to far more."

And, directly contacting Ant and Dec, a third told them: "I can't believe that people complaining to ofcom about your end of the show show last week. I thoroughly enjoyed it."

The single We Werk Together is raising money for the Trussell Trust and, by Sunday had peaked at number 2 on iTunes.
