Ant and Dec make plea on behalf of 'desperate' Michael Buble after his Takeaway appearance

Ant and Dec have made plea to fans on behalf of Michael Buble, who is desperate to land a number 1 with his new album.

Canadian crooner and Haven't Met You Yet hitmaker Michael was a star guest on last weekend's episode of Saturday Night Takeaway, joining the lads for an entertaining End of the Show Show in which they conduced him, after he'd opened the programme with his new single Higher.

And, it's the album of the same name that is in the race for the number 1 spot this week. It's a close run thing this week, with Michael narrowly leading the way in the midweek updates, just a few hundred copies ahead of Placebo and Machine Gun Kelly.

Matt Goss and the Foo Fighters are also in the race, with the band's Greatest Hits shooting up the charts after Taylor Hawkins' death.

Michael made a plea on Twitter for fans to continue to buy, download and stream Higher, saying: "UK, you're my people. I've been your many for 20 years and now I'm asking for your help.

"I want my record to go to number 1 on the charts and it's only you who can take it there for me. I think it was the great Ricky Bobby who said 'If you ain't first you're last.'

"So I need your help. Would you guys go and download the record." He ended: "Listen, UK folks, I love you dearly and, whatever happens, it's all good."

Before they sprung an epic April Fool prank, Ant and Dec shared the video on their own Twitter timeline and wrote: "Let’s get @MichaelBuble to #1! It’s the least we can do after ruining his #SaturdayNightTakeaway performance."

One fan replied: "Just downloaded it. Will be playing it all afternoon," but others weren't ready to follow Ant and Dec's orders, with another responding: "Howay man , the bloke is a karaoke singer."

Clearly not a fan, a second reacted: "Like you Michael, but you are rich enough. You don’t need to beg for people to buy your music…those that will, will, those that don’t, won’t...don’t spoil your image.."
