Ant and Dec end Saturday Night Takeaway with three word Wembley 'battle cry' to Newcastle

Ant and Dec issued a rallying call to their beloved Newcastle United in the closing moments of Saturday Night Takeaway's return, on the eve of the Magpies' big game at Wembley.

The Geordie hosts were left gutted earlier this month when they were unable to make it to St James' Park to see NUFC clinch a spot in the Carabao Cup final, due to filming commitments on Britain's Got Talent. But, while they were absent from the game, they gave an almost instant reaction as the full time whistle blew on United's 2-1 win over Southampton and, quickly took to Twitter, like many other fans to deliver a 'Tell Me Ma' response.

That very song being belted out by Geordies in Trafalgar Square as Ant and Dec took to the air to present Takeaway live to the nation on Saturday, as the pre-match festivities were just kicking up a notch just a short distance away from their studio.

Many Newcastle fans would have been expecting Ant and Dec to reference the cup final on the show and, while they left it late, they did just that. After getting involved in an End of the Show Show with singer Tom Grennan and thanking all of their guests, the hosts shouted "Haway the lads!" right before credits rolled.

Prior to taking to the air for a new series of Saturday Night Takeaway, Ant and Dec opened up about how they were feeling about Newcastle v Manchester United, when they joined Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston on Heart Breakfast on Friday.

Dec told the radio hosts: |"We’ve got the show on Saturday and we’ve got the match on Sunday. I am more nervous about the football than I am about the show."

Ant explained: "You know what it’s been a very good distraction, just to take your mind off tomorrow night’s show. Just thinking about Sunday all the time….You know first time since, god 1999 we’re at Wembley, adding:: "That’s where we played in two FA Cup finals ’98 and ’99, lost them both."
