Ant and Dec deliver NTAs winners' speeches online after Stephen Mulhern 'steals award'

Ant and Dec were swift to thank fans from their homes after missing out on being at the National Television Awards to pick up two awards. And their online thank yous came after Stephen Mulhern 'ripped up' their winners' speech for Best Presenter.

After it was announced that the Geordie lads had been forced to pull out of filming a Britain's Got Talent special earlier this weeks , Ant and De c took to social media to confirm they'd both tested positive for Covid.

They wrote: Sadly it's true, we even get ill together! After feeling unwell a few days ago, we both tested and we're positive for Covid." "We're resting up at home and are sorry that we can't be at the @officialntas. Best of luck everyone and get well soon to everyone else in the same boat."

Ant and Dec missed out on being there to collect the first award of the night, as I'm A Celebrity won for Best Entertainment, with Danny Miller delivering the winners speech and firing a dig at Stephen, as he sat looking baffled in the audience. Stephen was then on stage himself when Ant and Dec won Best Presenter for an incredible 21st time. He told the packed arena Ant and Dec had given him 'some words' to read out but then ripped up the bit of paper, cheekily quipping: "I'm not doing any of that drivel."

Back tracking, the In for A Penny star added: "Full respect to the guys, 21 years on the trot, come on!"

While they couldn't be there on the night, both Ant and Dec posted separate messages to fans on Twitter in the aftermath of theri win. Dec went first, writing: "Oi @StephenMulhern it took ages to write that speech!!!" adding: "Thank you SO much for voting for us, it is always appreciated and never taken for granted. You’ve made us feel tons better! Huge love."

Ant followed suit, tweeting: "Oi Mulhern!! I’m watching you from home. Keep that award safe and we will see you at work soon (if you’re lucky! A huge thank you to everyone who voted for us. From the bottom of our hearts, we are so so grateful. love ya’s!"
