Ant and Dec brought the first episode of I'm A Celebrity's new series to a rather abrupt end on Sunday as their usual walk into camp was scrapped due to an early trial twist.
Millions of viewers up and down the country were delighted that the Geordie duo were back in the jungle, for the first time since 2019, as I'm A Celebrity returned to is usual home of Australia, after two years in a castle in Wales. And Ant and Dec, in turn, looked thrilled to be back on their old stomping ground as an I'm A Celebrity line-up including Boy George, Sue Cleaver and Owen Warner were seen in action for the first time.
The bumper launch episode, which ran for 105 minutes, saw the celebs meet each other for the first time, prompting a an awkward moment between Owen and Scarlette Douglas, as he had no clue who she was. The big twist in the first show of the new series was that four of the celebs, two of whom had been voted by the public to be Jungle VIPs, were sent to a deserted island, while their fellow campmates were getting prepared to bed down for the first night in camp.
And there was big news for the VIPs - Boy George, Olivia Attwood, Scarlette and Chris Moyles, when, they found out all four of them would be doing the first trial of the new series, before finally going into the jungle. While Olivia seemed excited at the prospect, Chris definitely had a sense of impending doom.
Usually, Ant and Dec end each episode of I'm A Celebrity by going into camp, but given that there was no public vote on who should do the trial, that tradition was shelved for a night.
Just as Ant was saying how much he'd missed camp, Dec told viewers at home: "So, we already know the VIPs are doing tomorrow's trial, which means Ant and I don't need to go down into camp tonight," as Ant threw his arms up in the air in disappointment and shouted: "So that's it from us. We'll be back tomorrow from 9 o'clock with the first trial of the series. See you then," as I'm A Celeb's famous theme tune started playing.
