Another plane had to turn around after gross bathroom crisis

For those tracking the world of strange happenings on planes, it's been a busy month of bathroom-related incidents.

At the start of September, a Delta Air Lines (DAL) -) flight from Atlanta to Rome needed to turn back around for a "biohazard issue" that was later revealed to be a bad case of passenger diarrhea. Just under a month later, a Boeing 737-800 (BA) -) that was already on the way to Tampa from Panama City received communication of a suspicious item in the lavatory. An anti-explosive team that searched the plane later discovered that it was nothing but an adult diaper wrapped tightly in several black garbage bags.

The latest incident occurred on an EasyJet (EJTTF) -) flight from Spain's Tenerife to London. On Oct. 15, traveler Kitty Streek posted a video of a pilot making an overhead announcement that one of the passengers "found it rather exciting to defecate [on the floor of] the front toilet."

The plane needed further sanitization

"We're now staying the night here, we're now going to get everyone off and organize hotels, then we'll fly back tomorrow morning," the pilot is heard saying as loud groans spread throughout the cabin.

More Travel:

According to Streek, they had been waiting for more than three hours for the flight to take off before it was canceled entirely. As recounted by some of the other passengers on the flight on social media, the initial delay was caused by an overbooking issue — EasyJet had reportedly oversold the number of seats available on the plane and was offering volunteers travel vouchers of more than €600 to take another flight.

As more time passed and too few volunteered due to there not being another flight that evening, a plane full of frustrated passengers started to "descend into chaos" — to the point that one passenger reportedly defecated on the floor of the plane's bathroom. Other passenger photos and videos of the incident show a trail of toilet paper from one of the plane's lavatories.

Flight passengers complain, share disgusting videos

In statements to several media outlets after the incident went viral, EasyJet said that Flight EZY8054 "was subsequently delayed overnight due to the aircraft requiring additional cleaning."

While some of the passengers on the plane were placed in local hotels, others reported having to wait out the night in the Tenerife airport as there wasn't enough free space in hotels near the airport to house an entire plane full of people.

Both this situation and the above-mentioned Delta flight that had to turn back around due to a case of passenger diarrhea exploded online due to their unusual and somewhat comical nature — a flight strip from the latter flight shared on Reddit showed that the air traffic instructions were "Divert to ATL — passenger diarrhea all over aircraft — biohazard."

"She said it was all over the airplane, running down the aisle," one person claiming to have a friend on the flight to Rome wrote on social media platform Reddit. "I cannot — or maybe more accurately do not want to — imagine that. What a horror show for everyone involved."
