Back-to-back wins over the Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs in front of nationally televised audiences fueled a jump of 12 spots in the USA Today NFL power rankings for the Green Bay Packers entering Week 14.
The latest win — a 27-19 victory over the Chiefs on Sunday night — moved the Packers up three spots to No. 13, the team’s second-highest ranking of the 2023 season.
The Packers were previously the No. 12 team entering Week 3.
Here’s the Packers blurb from Nate Davis this week:
Given HC Matt LaFleur has never lost a game in December – his 16-0 mark is the best in league history – Green Bay is sitting pretty, particularly with five games scheduled this month.
The Packers sit directly behind the Denver Broncos, a team they lost to in October, and the Los Angeles, who are No. 11 despite a 20-3 loss in Green Bay without Matthew Stafford. The Packers’ win over the Rams kickstarted a stretch of four wins in five games and has propelled Green Bay into a playoff spot as the No. 7 seed in the NFC currently.
Week 14 brings the Packers to New York to play the Giants, the No. 29 ranked team. It marks one of four games for the Packers against teams currently ranked No. 20 or lower over the final five games of 2023.
As the Packers have shown in the last two weeks, “rankings” mean nothing when it comes to determining winners and losers of a particular matchup. The Lions and Chiefs were both in the top 10 of the rankings when the Packers beat them (and still are.) Nothing is guaranteed, even for good teams. The young Packers must take care of business down the stretch against teams they will be expected to beat.
