A giant on gameshow television, long-standing presenter Anne Robinson has announced this week that she will be stepping down from her role as host on Channel 4 show Countdown.
After just one year in the position, the first woman to host Countdown will be leaving the show in order to spend more time with her grandkids, she revealed in a statement made on Tuesday.
In the statement, 77-year-old Anne said: "I've had a blast hosting this wonderful show. And I stayed longer than I signed up for. Now it is time for an older woman to take the reins.
"I hope too I've encouraged TV bosses to realise that not all women at the wrong end of their seventies are in care homes playing bingo and watching conjuring tricks.

"In fact the genius of Countdown is that it's a brilliant way to keep the brain exercised. I run 5k most days of the week.
"And I can now do an anagram at twice the speed I could this time last year.
"But I have grandchildren, a large garden and a home in New York, all deserving more of my attention."
The TV star has been on our screens for decades, and is well-known for her deadly glare on show The Weakest Link, which a lot of older readers will be more than familiar with.

A life that begun in writing
After leaving school, Anne began a life in journalism before television, working as a trainee at the Daily Mail before she secured a permanent position at the paper after scooping the details of Brian Epstein's death.
She later married the paper's deputy news editor Charles Wilson, but she was forced to leave the paper because of their relationship in 1968, and joined The Sunday Times.
During her stint in journalism, Anne battled with alcohol addiction and lost her job at the Sunday Times in 1977 after she allegedly interviewed someone while drunk and failed to hand in her copy.
She then joined the Liverpool Echo, but returned to work on Fleet Street in 1980 when she joined the Daily Mirror as a columnist and assistant editor.
She also wrote a column under the pseudonym "Wednesday Witch".
Anne has also written for a number of other newspapers including Today, The Sun, The Times, The Express and The Daily Telegraph.

Anne first broke onto the television scene in 2000, as main presenter for The Weakest Link.
She was famed for her catty remarks to contestants, and her death stare when someone dared reply cheekily.
Anne joined the series for its launch in 2000 and remained in the presenter role throughout its initial run until 2012.
Anne is also known for presenting the BBC's long-running consumer show Watchdog. She presented the show for 15 years.
She came onto the scene on Countdown last year, and worked on 256 episodes of the show before hanging up her boots today.
Love is in the newsroom
Anne married Charles Wilson in 1968 while they both worked at the Daily Mail. She was forced to leave the paper due to their relationship.
The couple had a daughter together, Emma Wilson, who became a radio DJ. However, when Anne and Charles divorced, Charles was granted sole custody of Emma. Anne has admitted she was an alcoholic.
She later married journalist John Penrose in 1980. However, the couple announced they were planning on getting divorced in 2007 and cited "irreconcilable differences".
