Anne Hathaway is set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of The Idea of You alongside Nicholas Galitzine. The movie, based on the novel by Robinne Lee, follows the story of a divorced mother who embarks on a romance with a much younger pop star.
Robinne Lee's novel, published in 2017, gained renewed interest during the COVID-19 pandemic, coinciding with the rise of pop star Harry Styles' fame. The story delves into themes of aging, female sexuality, and societal expectations.
The film adaptation, announced in 2018, will be directed by Michael Showalter, known for his work on The Big Sick. Jennifer Westfeldt is set to write the script, with Hathaway taking on the lead role of Solene Marchand, a 40-year-old art gallery owner.
In The Idea of You, Hathaway's character forms a passionate relationship with Galitzine's character, Hayes Campbell, a 24-year-old member of a boy band. The movie is set to be released on Amazon Prime Video in May 2024.
The cast also includes Dan Reid as Solene's ex-husband, Ella Rubin as their daughter, and Annie Mumolo and Mathilda Gianopoulos in supporting roles. The first trailer for the film was released in March 2024, giving fans a glimpse of the steamy onscreen romance between the lead characters.
While there have been speculations about the novel being inspired by Harry Styles' fanfiction, Lee has clarified that the story is not directly based on Styles. However, she acknowledges that elements of Styles and other influences were woven into the character of Hayes Campbell.
The Idea of You promises to be a compelling exploration of love, desire, and self-discovery, with Hathaway and Galitzine at the helm of this captivating tale.
