Anne Carson: Canadian poet, essayist and translator Anne Carson has been awarded this year's Nobel Prize in Literature. The prize is awarded by the Swedish Academy and is worth 12 million Swedish crowns ($1.2 million). Ingrid Carlberg, permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy, said she had broken the news to Carson on the phone shortly before the public announcement.

"She was very taken by surprise. We didn't have so much time to speak, and all she had time to tell me was ​that she is for the moment in Iceland, where she's listening to the wind," said Ingrid Carlberg, ​permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy, reports news agency Reuters.
