Staff at Annan’s Dunnabie Farm Shop are celebrating this week after taking a top prize in The World Championship Scotch Pie Awards.
Owner Jo Birtwhistle and her team of butchers – John Johnstone, Nicola Robson and Betty Dick – are “chuffed to bits” at winning a gold award for their sausage rolls.
Jo, who opened the High Street shop 11 years ago, said: “After the misery of the pandemic during the past two years it is absolutely amazing to have something to celebrate.
“We are all chuffed to bits with the gold. We’ve won awards for our pies in the past and now to get one for our sausage rolls is so special.
“They are popular in Annan and we have a loyal customer base. We have been open right through the pandemic and we have been well supported by our customers.
“Getting this national recognition for what we are doing, and for the products we sell, feels very good.”
She added that their success was down to the best locally-sourced ingredients and their own secret recipe.
“We took delivery of over 400 entries this year, so to win is no small feat and to know that every winning product was lovingly made from scratch from locally sourced ingredients, freshly made daily by skilled craftspeople just goes to show the skill, creativity and hard work of each and every entrant.”
