Annan Athletic star wants to put play-off experience to good use as top four slot nears

Annan’s Tony Wallace is thirsting to put his play-off experience to good use as they close in on a coveted place in the end of season showdowns.

He played in the final last term when the Galabankies were edged out in the League Two promotion thrillers with Edinburgh City.

Now Wallace wants to go one better and clinch a step up to League One.

He said: “The way the results went for us last week it was ideal for us for the play-offs.

“I have been there twice in the play-offs and hopefully this time we can get there and go up. There are four games left now in the league and you want to get it done before the end especially with playing Stenhousemuir in the last game.

“We really want that done.”

Wallace was on target last weekend with Annan’s killer third goal in 27 minutes as they tore the Sons apart in a devastating first half at Galabank before running out 3-1 winners.

He added: “We did well to beat Dumbarton who are second in the league and that was the first time we beat them this season.

Even if we get them in the play-offs then that is a massive psychological edge for us, getting that result.

“The second half we just kind of saw the game out and could have had four or five in the first half which is a bit disappointing, but we have the points.

“My goal was a bit of a screamer!

“Actually, Max (Kilsby) should have cut it back earlier for me but their keeper made a good save and I was there to tap it in.

“It is about getting in the right areas to do that.”

Manager Peter Murphy: “It was nice to see us getting the goals, albeit one was an own goal.

“It was a pleasure to watch as a manager and hopefully we have a few more before the end of the season.

“I asked the players if we could be a bit a more ruthless and we took them a early doors.

“Aidan Smith didn’t score and worked so hard and Benji Luissint had a chance near the end...but he made an impact when he came on and Josh Galloway did really well when he came on too. Greg Fleming didn’t have much to do and still made excellent saves when called on.

“Everyone did well and I didn’t have much to say at the end of the game to the players.”
