Anis Mehmeti's first words and shirt number as he's confirmed as a Bristol City player

Anis Mehmeti believes he’s joining a club with “Premier League stature” after Bristol City pulled off a deadline day transfer coup with the arrival of the Albanian international from Wycombe Wanderers.

Mehmeti has signed a three-and-a-half year contract at Ashton Gate after a spell with Wycombe in League One where he has emerged as one of the most inventive and exciting attacking talents in the EFL.

City are understood to have activated a release clause in the 22-year-old’s contract to enable the move to the West Country and he inherits the No11 shirt vacated by Antoine Semenyo following his sale to Premier League Bournemouth.

A left-sided attacker or creative midfielder, Mehmeti possesses breath-taking dribbling ability and provides Nigel Pearson with his much-coveted maverick-like offensive talent who he’s been on the search for since the summer.

“I’m buzzing to be here. It’s a massive club and I can’t wait to get started,” Mehmeti said. “I want to win and I want to get promoted.

“This is a club with Premier League stature and I want to impose my mentality and worth ethic and have an influence straight away. I’m a creative player, I like to make things happen, score goals and most importantly I want to win.”

Mehmeti, who has scored nine goals and added four assists in 30 appearances this season, trained with City on Tuesday morning and will immediately come into contention for Saturday’s Championship clash at Preston North End.

Coincidentally or not, he also arrives on the day before new CEO Phil Alexander formally takes over from Richard Gould. Having left Crystal Palace last summer, Alexander had been working as a consultant for the Chairboys.

Even though Mehmeti boosts Pearson's attacking options, City are still hoping to add Luton Town forward Harry Cornick to their squad before the 11pm deadline with the Robins understood to have beaten Swansea City to the 27-year-old.
