Angry Accies striker rages that Ayr draw draw was 'not good enough'

Hamilton Accies striker Andy Winter says his side's 2-2 draw at Ayr United yesterday wasn't good enough, and that they should be beating teams like that.

Winter scored his first Championship goal in the clash at Somerset Park, but says it means nothing and the result feels like a defeat.

The 20-year-old showed great technique to send a dipping shot over keeper Charlie Albinson and into the bottom right corner in 14 minutes to cancel out Dipo Akinyemi's third-minute opener.

That was his fourth goal of the season, having scored three times in the Premier Sports Cup.

But after Andy Murdoch's stunner levelled Dan O'Reilly's header to put Hamilton 2-1 ahead, Winter said he was feeling empty.

Winter said: "It's a point on the road, but we want to win every game, and I don't think that's good enough today, personally.

"We should be coming here and beating teams like this. No disrespect to Ayr, but I think we've got more than enough in the game to take the three points.

"But we've just got to get the heads up and go into Raith Rovers next week."

He added: "The goal doesn't feel that good just now. I'm obviously gutted to lose the goal again in the dying moments of the game.

"It was good to get the goal, but it just doesn't feel very good just now.

"It was a great header from Dan, it was just what we needed at the right time, and we thought we had done it.

"It's a great strike from the boy, but you've got to keep going until the last minute, because that just shows you what can happen.

"It's the exact same as the game last season, and it's a good strike from the boy, but we've got to do better, I think."

Winter did reflect well on his 14th-minute strike, however, and was pleased with the goal.

He said: "I was playing on the right but managed to find myself on the left. As soon as I got in that position on the edge of the box I knew it was a big boy I was up against, so I thought 'shift your feet and go for a strike' and it found itself in the back of the net.

"Obviously I want to kick on. I want to score more goals than that, this season, so it's just about cracking on now and getting more goals."
