An unfinished new build estate in Nottingham has been labelled 'appalling' amidst calls for the housebuilder to not receive further housing contracts. Work on the Martin’s Reach estate, off Russell Drive in Wollaton, began in 2019 and residents began to move in to the new properties, which cost upwards of £500,000, around a year later.
Avant Homes was the developer behind the scheme, where housebuilding finished in 2021. However, as of January 2023, some pavements outside completed homes in the development have been left unfinished.
Residents and councillors say both pavements and roads are in a potentially dangerous state, and the housebuilder promised to begin work within weeks after concerns were raised as early as February last year. Councillor Steve Battlemuch, who represents Wollaton West for Labour, told the Local Democracy Reporting Service the housebuilder should not be awarded any new contracts until it finishes the development.
