Angels of the North spreads wings to reign over BBC Three comeback with new series

Geordie salon stars have made the cut when it comes to drawing up the schedules for the TV return of BBC Three.

The Angels of the North will be enjoying a big chunk of the airtime as the channel - dropped from mainstream viewing in 2016 and replaced by an online stream - celebrates its comeback.

Back as a linear channel this week, BBC Three is now widening choice for viewers with the help of a third outing of the North East series which has become such a hit on parent channel BBC and iPlayer.

From 7.30pm to 11.30pm this Friday night, BBC Three will be screening the new series and - in a double Geordie whammy - it will also feature its stars as continuity announcers.

Featuring the life, love and work behind the scenes of the Longlox salon near the Metrocentre in Gateshead, Angels of the North has become a huge favourite with viewers for its mix of glamour, gossip and Geordie humour.

It first premiered as an eight-part boxset on BBC iPlayer in 2019 before transferring to BBC1 and now it is set to garner more fans as it spreads its wings to BBC Three.

The third series, which had a preview in Newcastle last autumn, offers further insight into the hair extrension salon, headed up by owner Sammyjo Pearson, as well as spin-off businesses as the circle widens to include the young stylists' friends and partners.

A spokesman said: "Angels of the North is about driven and dedicated business owners and athletes from working-class families, all passionate about making something of themselves and reaching for the top.

"They are role models smashing down the walls of the ‘typical’ reality TV stars."

Series three also follows 28-year-old entrepreneur Shane Guttridge who owns tattoo parlour Pure Ink 3 and is out to give the industry a fresh image.

Sammyjo and Shane will be taking over as continuity announcers on BBC Three this Friday ,February 4 as the series is screened as part of an Angels of the North evening. It will be "North East voices all night on BBC Three" added the spokesman.

BBC Three can be watched on Sky 117 or 173, Freesat 107, Freeview 109 and Virgin 107. For more information see here.
