Angels of the North series 4 filming locations - from The Hoppings to Rusty's as BBC show returns

Angels of the North is back for a fourth series this week and, after the last two series were hampered by the Covid pandemic, the cast of the BBC show have been filming in more locations than ever before.

Angels of the North was something of an unknown quantity when it launched on iPlayer towards the end of 2019, after a red carpet premiere for cast and their families at the Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle. However, while BBC viewers had no idea what to expect from the show, centered on Longlox supersalon near the Metrocentre, it quickly became a binge watch favourite and has so far been streamed over 9 million times.

The show and its cast don't shy away from the sometimes harsh reality of their professional and personal lives, with cameras there as Longlox owner Sammyjo Pearson had to close her doors as the country went into lockdown in 2020, with no idea when her business could get back to some normality. Sammyjo has also been really candid about her mental health battle and, in the first episode of series 4, which was released on Monday, October 17., revealed she suffered a miscarriage at the start of this year.

The third series saw the Angels cast extended to include the team at Pure Ink 3 tattoo studio in Newcastle and boxers from Bilton Hall Club in Jarrow. And the new run of episodes has seen the show's stars film on location all over the region, at events like Plate Day and Newcastle Pride and venues like Beach Box and Rusty's, as they let their hair down after work.
