Sammyjo Peraon has opened uip about suffering a devastating miscarriage at the start of this year, in an emotional moment on the new series of Angels of the North.
A massive binge watch success for the BBC since it launched in 2019, the Tyneside shot show is now in its fourth series, with is new run giving BBC Three one of its flagship shows, since its relaunch as a full TV channel earlier this year. The first episode of Angels of the North series 4 went out on BBC Three on Monday night, after all 10 episodes were made available to watch in one go on iPlayer hours earlier.
The first episode sees Longlox salon owner Sammyjo attend two christenings, with her being godparent to staff member Kendall's daughter, as well as having the same responsibility for friend and Angels of the North co-star Jade's little baby girl. Jade joined the Angels cast in series three, alongside brother Shane, who owns Pure Ink tattoo studio in Newcastle city centre.
And it was in a piece to camera as footage of Jade's daughter's christening party played out on screen that Sammyjo broke the news of her miscarriage. Reflecting on how it felt being at a christening after what had happened to her months earlier, Sammyjo fought back tears as she said: "Being surrounded by all these babies and kids does make me think about what could have been. I had a miscarriage at the start of the year, which was really hard; even talking about it now is really hard. So it just made me think that could be me."
Becoming more emotional, Sammyjo added: "My miscarriage at the start of this year has really helped me realise how strong I am and realise what I actually do want in life and it's somebody to support me and look after me in the way that way I deserve."
