Angels of the North is spreading its wings again, with the show's fourth series set to give BBC Three one of its biggest TV hits this autumn.
It's now been three years since cameras were first invited in to Gateshead hair salon and celebrity haunt Longlox, as the staff let viewers in on their lives inside and outside of the salon,. After all of the first series was made available as a box set, it became an immediate binge watch hit as fans couldn't get enough of manager Sammyjo Pearson and her team.
Plans were swiftly made for Angels of the North to get a second series, with filming kicking off at the start of 2020, before coming to a halt was the country went into lockdown. BBC cameras captured the moment Sammyjo was forced into closing her doors, with no idea that the salon would be shut for months and months as stringent restrictions came into force. A film crew were also on location when Longlox, like many other businesses, finally got the green light to re-open, with footage being shot for the second half of series two.
The red carpet was rolled out at Boiler Shop in Newcastle last autumn for the launch of series three, Angels of the North biggest to date, as the spotlight was expanded to cover city centre tattoo studio Pure Ink and Jarrow boxing club Bilton Hall.
And now familiar faces like Sammyjo, Pure Ink brother and sister Shane and Jade and young boxer Ewan will soon be back on screen when Angels of the North returns for more, making its debut on BBC Three on Monday, October 17 at 8.30pm, with all 10 episodes of the new series being made available to binge from 6am on the same day.
There’s a double Christening with Sammyjo as godmother to not one, but two children and she’s back in the dating game with some advice from her Longlox girls who offer a little digital help. And, finally, after a two year wait, Sammyjo celebrates moving in to the house of her dreams with an eventful housewarming party.
Over at Pure Ink, Shane is delighted to have little sister Jade back at work after having her daughter, Alaya. He’s loving life as an uncle; meanwhile Jade is getting to grips with the tough work/life juggle that comes with being a new mam.
And in Jarrow, Ewan, boyfriend of Longlox stylist Kallie, faces his toughest challenge yet as he trains for a career-defining fight at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light. It’s an intense time of training, training and more training as he aims to take his unbeaten run to five wins out of five.
