Six leading chefs will take over a Fitzrovia restaurant to celebrate International Women’s Day this March.
Carousel, the celebrated food spot known for its rotating cast of chef residences, will welcome the women “rewriting the rules and redefining what it means to be a successful chef”, according to food writer Clare Finney, who has curated the series.
Angela Hartnett, whose restaurant Murano recently retained its Michelin star for 2022, will bring her take on Italian cooking, while Sam Evans and Shauna Ginn, who won plaudits for their BBQ brilliance at Hang Fire in Wales, have also been signed up.
Writer, restaurateur and broadcaster Romy Gill will deliver a fusion of flavours from the West Country and West Bengal, while Julie Lin will focus on the Malaysian street food served in her Glasgow restaurant, Julie’s Kopitiam. Sabrina Gidda, formerly executive chef at all-women members’ club The AllBright, will craft dishes inspired by her upbringing and career spent in various professional kitchens.
Each chef will formulate their own five-course menus, to be served across five evenings, and portions of each dinner sold will go towards women’s charities chosen by the residents.
Portraits of the chefs will adorn the walls at Carousel during the residency, each taken by photographer Liz Seabrook — who also collaborated with Finney on her book, The Female Chef, in which Murano, Evans, Ginn, Gill, Lin and Gidda are all included.
The series will run from March 8-12, at Carousel, 19-23 Charlotte Street, W1T 1RL. The pre-paid menu is priced at £65 per person, and can be booked here.
