Angel Lynn’s mother breaks down on GMB as she slams kidnapper’s sentence

The mother of a 19-year-old girl who was left with catastrophic brain injuries while being kidnapped by her controlling ex-boyfriend has slammed his sentence.

The parents of Angel Lynn broke down in tears on Good Morning Britain as they discussed their daughter’s ordeal which saw her left with life-changing injuries after she was kidnapped by Chay Bowskill and his friend Rocco Sansome.

Ms Lynn was being bundled into the back of a van by her ex-partner before falling out of it at 60mph on the A6 towards Loughborough in Leicestershire.

She was found on the carriageway by members of the public at around 10.45am on September 17, 2020.

Police said Ms Lynn exited the vehicle at some point in the journey and she now requires “round the clock care” due to the injuries she suffered.

Bowskill, 20, was given a seven-and-a-half year sentence.

Sansome, also 20, received 21 months behind bars for his part in the kidnap.

Ms Lynn’s mother broke down in tears on the talk show as she called for justice for her daughter.

Speaking to hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls, Nikki Lynn said: “I think it should be looked at again and I think he should get a longer sentence.

“Judge Spencer said, ‘you’re looking at a hefty sentence’. Well I don’t think that’s a hefty sentence at all.”

Bowskill, of Syston in Leicestershire, was convicted of kidnap, coercive and controlling behaviour and perverting the course of justice following a trial at Leicester Crown Court.

However, because of time already spent on remand he will become eligible for release in June 2024.

Speaking of her daughter’s injuries, she said: “Angel will probably still be lying in bed when he’s out, ruining someone else’s life.

“She can’t walk, talk, eat... we don’t know if she knows who we are when we visit.”

Host Ed said: “It’s hard to imagine how difficult is has been for you.”

“We want to bring her home but we don’t live in the biggest of houses,” Nikki said as she began to cry. “It doesn’t bear thinking how much we’ve got to do.”

Bowskill’s seven-and-a-half year jail term is to be reviewed under the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme by the Attorney General.

In a statement confirming the sentence would be reviewed, a spokeswoman for the Attorney General’s office said: “We have received a request for this sentence to be considered under the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme.

“The Law Officers have 28 days from sentencing to consider the case and make a decision.”

In a statement released after the sentencing hearing, Ms Lynn’s family said: “Our lives have been changed beyond recognition forever.

“Angel was so full of life and had such a great future ahead of her. That future has sadly been taken away from her.

“The catastrophic injuries Angel suffered will mean life will never be the same for her or our family. Every day is not only a huge struggle for Angel but also a huge struggle for our family and friends.

“We are lucky in some ways as we are a close family, we have lots of lovely friends who help us and people that care in other ways.”

The statement continued: “We try to remain strong but we know that every day will be difficult and a struggle for us all especially for Angel.

“I know that Angel will never get married now and I will never get to walk my daughter down the aisle. Nikki and I will never be grandparents to Angel’s children.

“We don’t know what the future holds for our daughter but we try to put smiles on our faces each day but inside our hearts are bleeding out.”
