Ange Postecoglou to snub Japan as Celtic boss believes he is 'building something special' at the Hoops

Celtic believe double-winning boss Ange Postecoglou will knock back any advances from Land of the Rising Sun.

The Australian has shot to the top of Japan’s wishlist to replace head coach Hajime Moriyasu if he flops at the World Cup. Sources in Japan claim JFA technical director Yasuharu Sorimachi has even already reached out to the Celtic manager.

Highly-rated Postecoglou, currently on tour with his team in his homeland, has already knocked back interest from elsewhere after winning back the Premiership title with a stylish brand of football. He led Celtic into the group stage of the Champions League and is keen for his team to make more of an impact there. He feels he is building something special in Glasgow and it would take an offer he could not refuse to tempt him away. But Record Sport understands that will not come from Japan. Postecoglou was previously linked with Wolves and has been mentioned as a potential successor to Frank Lampard at Everton.

The Hoops boss was honoured on his return down under as he was inducted into Australia FA’s hall of fame. Postecoglou played for South Melbourne and Western Suburbs but he really made his name in management with South Melbourne, Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory and the Australian national team.

The 57-year-old joked: “I feel old, usually when you get into these sorts of things you have a body of work behind you. I am truly humbled. I feel blessed that everything I have achieved so far has been recognised in this way.”

The Hoops boss hopes his achievements can inspire other Australians.

Postecoglou, speaking to CelticTV, added: “Hopefully, dreams are not put into boxes, where you are born or grew up limits you.”
