Ange Postecoglou handed Tottenham 'acid test' warning as Tim Sherwood makes no 'gimme' games putdown

Ange Postecoglou has been warned that Tottenham is his 'acid test'.

The former Celtic boss has made the move to the English Premier League to replace Antonio Conte on a four-year deal after two hugely successful years north of the border. The 57-year-old signed off from the Hoops by securing a Treble after lifting the Scottish Cup with victory over Inverness at Hampden last weekend.

That domestic clean sweep was backed up by two trophies in his first season to make it five out of six while his transfer dealings have also been lauded with the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Reo Hatate, Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liel Abada, Matt O'Riley and Daizen Maeda all arriving in Scotland under his watch.

But Sherwood has warned Postecoglou that he will find the EPL a 'culture shock' as he gets set for the ultimate test in his management career after he labelled the Scottish Premiership as 'not a very competitive environment.'.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, he said:"They've gone for a few other managers beforehand, it looks like, like it's fell into his lap so good luck to him.

"He's done well at Celtic and now he's come to the big league, this is the acid test.

"He will find it a culture shock, there are no ‘gimme’ games, and anyone can beat anyone especially when you are at Spurs. He'll come in with an attacking style of football.

"Without being disrespectful to the Scottish Premier League, you have four games a year and it is not a very competitive environment. The Premier League is the ultimate test.

"It’s a brave move from Tottenham’s point of view, but they have tried to go safe before with [Antonio] Conte and [Jose] Mourinho and it hasn't worked so why not roll the dice? They have certainly done it this time.

"I wish him well.”

In a Champions League job criteria warning, Sherwood added: “When he sat down with Daniel Levy, I know Daniel would have said ‘we want to be in the Champions League’.

"It’s going to be very hard to get into the Champions League and if that is the objective and the criteria to keep his job, he will be out of a job very soon.”
