ANGE POSTECOGLOU says that he expects two more players to be added to his Celtic squad within the next week as he looks to land his major targets before the start of the season.
The Celtic manager was speaking after watching his side draw 2-2 with English Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers, with goals from Jota and David Turnbull maintaining their unbeaten run in pre-season so far.
Postecoglou is happy with where his squad is at the moment, but hopes his patience is rewarded as he looks to add some extra quality over the next few days.
“We’re definitely going to add a couple of players,” he said.
“We’re working on that but would expect to do that in the next seven days. We had to be patient and that was much more important than rushing. I’m confident we’re close to the end point in bringing in a couple which will help. “The squad is looking really good but on days like today we want to make sure we don’t lose our effectiveness when a couple are missing.” Postecoglou cleared up a couple of injury concerns after the friendly at Celtic Park, starting with Anthony Ralston, who limped off late on.
“He’s alright,” he said. “He’s got a bit of a cut on his foot couple of stitches nothing too serious. “That’s part of the process we’re at the moment but I thought the reaction to conceding was really good. We were at it, put a lot of pressure on and the reaction was excellent.” Reo Hatate and Giorgos Giakoumakis were also both missing from the squad, but there was no cause for alarm over the absence of those players either, with Giakoumakis given leave to attend the birth of his child.
“Reo is ok but fell ill yesterday,” he said. “We had a decision to make. We could have given him 30 minutes today or flog him on the running track. Unfortunately for him we flogged him.
“Gio has taken a couple of personal days as his missus is due. We sent a personal trainer so he’s not getting away with that.”
