Craig Moore believes Celtic's Champions League performances have given the Hoops "something to build on" but insists manager Ange Postecoglou needs to find a better balance between attack and defence as they bowed out Group F without a win.
Postecoglou's men were on the end of a 5-1 rout against Real Madrid on Wednesday night and were cut wide open on several other occasions as a result of the progressive style the Aussie boss has implemented on the Scottish Premiership champions. Former Australia and Rangers defender Moore reckons the Parkhead manager has to learn lessons on how to manage a game when up against some of the continents best sides rather than let approach slip as 'entertainment.'
He told the Go Radio Football Show: “I think Celtic, a lot of the matches that they were involved in, there were really good spells. There were opportunities that were missed. It's finding that balance. I think if you have the same desire in defence as well as you do in attack then I think you are a lot more well-rounded and that means being good in both boxes.
"Defensively was an issue but in terms of what Celtic created in the games, they will be quite happy with that and it's something to build on for next season if they in the Champions League as well.
"Its about having the ability to manage a game and get over the line. It’s finding the balance because I feel as though sometimes we can go ‘it’s an entertainment business’ and I get that.
“I get that for the supporter. They want to be entertained, they want to see exciting football but they still want to win football matches. That’s the only currency that really matters in this game is winning football matches."
Andy Walker replied indicating that Postecoglou's system played into the Spanish giants hands as he pinpointed how exposed both Celtic full backs; Greg Taylor and Josip Juranovic were against Carlo Ancelotti's side.
"Look at the amount of times Real Madrid got in behind the right full back and behind the left full back," added the former Celtic player. "That's the way Celtic play. Ange Postecoglou wants those two full backs further up the pitch so there is as you mention some balance to be struck.
"You can't keep playing that way, actually scoring maybe more often, as you'll still concede as many so that balance has to be made."
Moore then chimed back in to state that Real Madrid are actually the perfect example of a side who can show versatility at the top level with the Hoops boss continually reiterating that's where his side want to be.
He continued: "A good example is Real Madrid if you look at what they can do. But at the same time you can look at the Champions League final. They have another side to their game."
