Andy's Lanarkshire home helps raise more than £1000 for families and food bank

Big-hearted Lanarkshire residents came together to raise more than £1000 that will help local families struggling to make ends meet.

Grass roots community organisations, Charity@Home and Resourceful Community Volunteers, once again joined forces, raising money by selling clothing, baking, food and other items during a family fun day hosted by Andrew Rayson and partner Gary in the front garden of their Wishaw home.

Catherine Craig is the driving force behind Resourceful Community Volunteers while NHS worker Andrew is a work colleague of Angie Cheney who along with friends and family members runs Charity@Home, which operates from a container in a gated-yard in the town. They regularly hold open days selling nearly new clothes and other items and then buying food vouchers with the proceeds, which are donated to local families.

In addition to the usual clothing and food stalls at the event, there was also a tombola, raffles, and a spin board with every go winning a chocolate treat.

Angie’s daughters Sarah and Cheryl helped out on the day. Cheryl has her own nail business and was delighted to take on the task of face painting for the afternoon.

At the end of they day they had a total of £1055 before receiving a further welcome cash boost.

Angie said: “We are absolutely delighted and just want to say a big thank you to family friends, our work colleagues at NHS and Serco and all of Andrew’s neighbours who stopped in. A lovely couple from Andy’s estate gave us a donation of £70.

“Our thanks also to Madras Cottage Indian Takeaway who brought the food and donated two munchie boxes.

“The money will be used to help families in our local community along with voucher donations to the local food bank.”
