Andy Reid shares positive update on injury status of Chiefs veterans: ‘We’re getting close’

The injuries that have ravished the Kansas City Chiefs on both sides of the ball this season have not affected their franchise-record 14-game winning streak. Patrick Mahomes has been dealing with a sore ankle since his scare on Monday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but is trending toward playing in Week 10.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke to the media on Wednesday, sharing updates on Charles Omenihu, Isiah Pacheco, and JuJu Smith Schuster, who continue to be out due to injuries.

“We’re taking it week by week, day by day (with) that whole deal,” Reid said. “Then we’ve got to work through the doctors on that and the check-ups there. They’re both (Charles Omenihu and Isiah Pacheco) doing great; they’re both making progress. JuJu (Smith-Schuster), the same way. We’re getting close.”

Omenihu hasn’t played since tearing his ACL and numerous ligaments in his knee during January’s AFC Championship game. Pacheco broke his fibula in Week 2 against the Cincinnati Bengals and is rehabbing after successful surgery. Smith-Schuster could be back sooner as he battles a recent hamstring injury.
