ANDY Murray has been denied his swansong Wimbledon match after his mixed doubles partner Emma Raducanu pulled out of their clash citing stiffness in her right wrist.
There had been great anticipation about the two high-profile players teaming up to give the famous Scot his final farewell at Wimbledon.
They were scheduled to play Zhang Shuai and Marcelo Arevalo in the fourth match on Court One on Saturday but Raducanu withdrew several hours before.
A statement read: “Unfortunately I woke up with some stiffness in my right wrist this morning, so therefore I have decided to make the very tough decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles tonight.
“I’m disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy but got to take care.”
Raducanu has reached the fourth round of the women’s singles at Wimbledon, where she will play qualifier Lulu Sun on Sunday.
Murray won the singles championships at Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016 and was the first British man to triumph in singles at the competition in 77 years.
A feat that has solidified him as one of Scotland's most celebrated athletes.
