Andy Murray calls for end to 'farce' after 4am Australian Open victory

Andy Murray has called for world tennis to end the 'farce' of late night matches after the Brit came from two sets down to beat Thanasi Kokkinakis, in a match that went into the early hours of Friday morning.

Despite trailing the Australian 5-3 in the third set of their second-round encounter in front of a passionate, partisan crowd, Murray once again showed that his steadfast unwillingness to give up is still his most lethal weapon.

The 35-year-old, who had battled for nearly five hours to upset Matteo Berrettini on Tuesday in his best result since 2017, forced a deciding set and finally prevailed 4-6 6-7 (4) 7-6 (5) 6-3 7-5. When the match finally came to an end, the local time was 4.05am.
