Andy Murray has paid his respects to Queen Elizabeth II, stating that the monarch led an 'amazing life' before insisting that he feels this week's men's Davis Cup matches will be a chance for people to pay their respects.
After exiting the US Open at the third round stage, Murray is part of a Great Britain side that will play the USA, Kazakhstan and Netherlands in Group D of the tournament this week - with all the matches being played at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.
And the three-time major winner says that the team competition will be a great chance to celebrate The Queen's life after her death last week.
"It's obviously been a very sad week with the news about The Queen passing away, but I think here will be a chance for everyone to show how much she meant to everyone," Murray told Sky Sports .
“I'm sure there'll be songs sung and a minute's silence observed. She obviously had an amazing life and I think here, these few days when GB are competing, will be a chance to celebrate her and everything that she did.
World No 43 Murray met The Queen at Wimbledon in 2010 - the last of her four visits to SW19. She watched him beat Jarkko Nieminen from the Royal Box on Centre Court and met other players including Roger Federer and Serena Williams.
Murray added: "I was very fortunate to get the opportunity to play in front of her and compete at Wimbledon when she came along to watch which was a really nice memory for me."
USA have been hit by the withdrawal of US Open semi-finalist Frances Tiafoe from their squad while captain Mardy Fish won't make the trip to Scotland after catching Covid.
Murray is in a buoyant mood going into the Davis Cup matches after two wins at the US Open earlier this month and joins the British men's team including Cameron Norrie, Dan Evans, Joe Salisbury and Leon Smith.
Great Britain begin their Davis Cup group with a match against USA tomorrow, with Kazakhstan taking on the Netherlands on the first day of competition later today.
USA will face Kazakhstan on Thursday before Great Britain take on the Netherlands on Friday. Netherlands meet USA on Saturday before Great Britain face Kazakhstan on Sunday to conclude the group stage.
The top two sides from each group will advance to the quarter-final stage.
