Andy Halliday has called for Rangers to dish out severe punishments to the fans who lobbed glass bottles onto the pitch.
The second half of the powderkeg clash with Celtic was delayed by three minutes after Joe Hart alerted Willie Collum and stewards that his goal mouth was covered in shards.
The unsettling images were being beamed across Britain with the top of the table clash being shown on Sky Sports main event.
And another incident came to light at full-time as a member of the Celtic staff was hit with a bottle during the derby clash.
Police Scotland have launched an investigation into the incident and Rangers have stated they are reviewing stadium CCTV to find the culprits.
Former Rangers star Halliday didn't hold back on the supporters who put multiple players, fellow fans and staff in danger.
When it was put to him that throwing the bottle was stupid and unsafe on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Halliday said: "Yeah, and the safety of the players.
"The players are on the pitch trying to do their job, they shouldn't have to worry about being struck by a glass bottle.
"If that makes contact with a player or Joe Hart doesn't see any pieces of glass before the second half and dives on it, it can cause serious injury.
"Rangers have to assist Police Scotland and investigate, and the punishment shouldn't be light."
