Andy Gray reveals major Everton fear as Farhad Moshiri 'judgement' questioned

Andy Gray has expressed his concern over Everton's current position, claiming the club appears to be 'at a crossroads.'

The Blues finished 16th in the Premier League last term, winning three of their final six games to end the season four points clear of the relegation zone. Frank Lampard will be looking to deliver a much-improved campaign on this occasion, though may well require further additions in the transfer window to make this a reality.

Everton's business last summer was severely restricted by Financial Fair Play regulations, with the £1.7million spent on Demarai Gray accompanying four free transfers. As newly-promoted sides such as Fulham and Nottingham Forest continue to strengthen their squads upon their return to the top flight, there is a worry among some supporters that another dogfight at the foot of the table involving the Toffees could be forthcoming.

One individual who has not held back with his assessment of the current state of play is Goodison Park legend Gray, having suggested Everton could follow in the footsteps of other sides who have experienced a rapid demise if a bottom-three finish were to become a reality in 2022/23.

“It’s very clear that Everton seem to be at a crossroads now. Throughout my life I’ve seen great teams, big teams and big clubs crash and burn," the former Blues forward told White and Jordan. “I look at my old club Wolves who nearly went out of business, Leeds United who disappeared from the Premier League and took years and years to get back. I fear for Everton that if they went down, that could happen."

Pointing the finger at Farhad Moshiri's 'judgement of coaches', Gray is adamant that big decisions at boardroom level have eventually caught up on Everton and are no longer possible to ignore.

"The thing with Moshiri, has he provided Everton and Everton coaches with money? Yes, he has, we can’t argue with that. Over half a billion has come out and so you can’t criticise Everton for not investing," admitted the Scot.

“My criticism of Farhad Moshiri is his judgement of coaches. He’s the man who appoints the coaches. Recruitment in football is all. Look at the big clubs, you stand or fall based on your recruitment, but you look around that Everton squad and think who have we bought in the last six years that you could put on the market and get more for? There’s no one.

“His communication with the fans has been really poor as well and Everton fans are getting really sick of seeing their team wallowing in the bottom six of this league and want to see improvement.”
