Andy Cohen's Oversized Headboard is a Gateway Into The Future of Luxury Design

Goodbye boring cream bedrooms – in 2026 homeowners are craving a richer, more compelling look. If you want to go bold but aren't sure how, an oversized headboard is the statement piece you need.

Andy Cohen's Hamptons bedroom demonstrates just how striking it looks. The presenter's bedroom features blue wave-covered wallpaper interrupted by a gargantuan striped blue headboard. It reaches behind his bedside lamps and tables for an impressive, all-encompassing look.

His designer, Jackie Greenberg explains: '[The oversized headboard] allows the nightstand to be as big as possible. And, by incorporating sconces directly into the headboard, the surface area is completely freed up.'

Thus, Greenberg's design is not only stunning; it opens up new avenues for storage. As design gets simultaneously bolder and more practical, its clear why Andy's headboard is emerging as a major 2026 interior design trend.

To dive in, Homes & Gardens curated a blue bedroom edit inspired by Andy's look, and spoke with designers about the evolution of the oversized headboard trend and how to recreate it at home. Hint: headboards are only getting bigger.

Shop The Blue Bedroom Edit

If you want to invest directly in the oversized headboard trend, the Seraph Upholstered Winged King Bed from Crate & Barrel is available in a range of colors to fit in any room. Otherwise, here are our favorite blue pieces for bringing an Andy-inspired charm to your bedroom.

Natural Beauty

This beautiful landscape wallpaper is a mural with the easiest installation you've ever experienced. It would look gorgeous behind a blue bed, or as a contrast in a brighter colored space.

Innovative Shape

This pretty blue headboard is the perfect option for adding personality to your bed while keeping it simple. Available in two shades of blue, it fits well in any room.

Velvet Surface

This navy zigzag pillow adds geometric charm, similar to Andy's striped headboard, with an elevated feel. The mix of velvet fabrics is so elegant.

100% Cotton

Patterned bedding adds that extra touch of style to your bedroom. This block-printed style is a bestseller. The splashes of white give it balance, ideal for introducing personality to your living room if you're not so sure about color.

Classic pattern

Nothing is more classic than a stripe, and these crisp ones would be perfectly positioned for a coastal scheme. I love the idea of layering this cushion with other blue pillows.

Textural

A multi-tonal area rug is the perfect way to create separate zones in your bedroom, and we're absolutely obsessed with the design of this one.

Though large headboards have been in the zeitgeist for a while, part of what feels so revolutionary about Andy's design is the way Greenberg has paired it with a tonal wallpaper. It creates the illusion that the headboard idea goes on forever.

'No matter the size of your headboard, combining it with a wallpaper in a similar shade is a great way to make it feel massive,' advises Carlin van Noppen, interior designer at Fig Linens and Home. 'It breaks down the visual boundary between wall and furnishing. This technique is especially useful in a small bedroom where you don't have room for an especially large headboard, but still want to expand the space being the bed.'

This look is dominating bedroom trends in 2026.

Carlin states: 'Among our clients, we've been seeing a huge increase in demand for large headboards. Though people once wanted their bedrooms to be a space for complete relaxation, I think today there's a lot more concession that these spaces should feel as interesting as the rest of the home.'

As stated above, oversized headboards like Andy's are also growing in popularity due to people living in smaller spaces in cities and looking for more ways to maximize their bedroom storage. This is one that doesn't take away from the aesthetic of your home.

Design expert Shelley Cochrane also advises: 'If you’re looking to add storage without compromising on the coziness in your bedroom, opt for an oversized upholstered headboard in a tactile fabric like velvet or boucle, which will soften the look of a larger bed nicely. Better yet, choose a bed with a wraparound headboard, which adds an extra cocooning element to help cultivate an atmosphere for the perfect night's sleep.'
