Andy Burnham is set to hit the decks, with a DJ set confirmed on Ancoats restaurant and bar Ramona. The Mayor of Greater Manchester will be pitching up with his box of seven-inches on August 3.
Burnham is apparently a regular at the beer garden, which specialises in Detroit pizza, margaritas and mezcal. “Yes the mayor!” Ramona said on its Instagram page.
“He swings in for pizza quite a bit so we asked him if he fancied Djing, he said… he’d absolutely love to! Expect lots of New Order, Manchester classics and 90s summer Jams. Bring the party @andyburnhamgm you got this.” The mayor will be playing from 8pm, with the set also broadcasting on Mixcloud.
Burnham joins a host of top local and international talent to curate music at the tented venue on Swan Street. Next month alone features DJ, writer and broadcaster Bill Brewster on the roster, as well as Mikey D.O.N and Mica Miller, while previous selectors have included the likes of Crazy P’s Danielle Moore, Chimpo, Jenna G and 6 Music’s Tom Ravenscroft.
It’s not Burnham’s first jaunt out on the decks either. He went head-to-head in a DJ battle with Liverpool Mayor Steve Rotheram during the pandemic to raise money for charity via the United We Stream initiative, set up by Parklife and Warehouse Project’s Sacha Lord.
He’s also been found playing tunes at Electrik in Chorlton too, as part of their One Deck midweek session, which has seen the likes of Irvine Welsh, Steve Davis and Maxine Peake turn up with a bag of records.
