Andriy Yarmolenko could return to West Ham squad for Liverpool match, confirms David Moyes

David Moyes is hopeful Andriy Yarmolenko will be involved when West Ham travel to Liverpool on Saturday.

The Ukraine international was given time off last week following the invasion of his home country by Russia. The 32-year-old has been back in training this week but was left in London when West Ham travelled to Southampton on Wednesday night.

While Moyes does not want to put pressure on the winger to return, the manager will asses Yarmolenko on Friday before deciding whether he's ready to return to the squad at Anfield.

“He's trained, I hope he could be back," Moyes told Standard Sport.

“I don't think physically is the biggest problem but I think still mentally we may have to give him a few days. But I'll assess him on Friday.

“He trained again on Thursday. When we went to Southampton, he trained on Wednesday at the training ground so he's had a few days now of just getting back into it.

“But again, mentally we've just got to make sure. I don't feel as if I want to push him, I want him to tell me when he's getting closer to being ready."

Former Ukraine international Andriy Shevchenko claimed on Wednesday night that Yarmolenko had travelled to Poland to meet with his family, though West Ham and Moyes have both denied the story.

“That wasn't correct, no," said Moyes.

Moyes will also have to assess the fitness of Aaron Cresswell who missed the trip to Southampton through injury.
