Andrew Marr has says he remembered his own father's death as he was overcome with emotion at having to announce The Queen's death live on air on Thursday.
Well known BBC personality and political journalist Andrew was hoisting on LBC radio when new suddenly reached him that Her Majesty had passed away at the age of 96, Struggling to compose himself, Andrew was audibly upset as he told listeners: "Hour after hour, in a sense, nothing has happened but everything has happened. It began when news percolated through the House of Commons in a rather unsettling way that The Queen was ill, that she was being looked after by her doctors but was comfortable.
"And a day after...I've said nothing has happened, but it has now, because I have to interrupt the programme to tell you that Buckingham Palace has confirmed that The Queen has died."
The host chocked on his words as he delivered that last sentence, before adding: "She was 96-years-old and she died at Balmoral peacefully this afternoon."
He then told listeners "I said I'd lost it and I did."
Andrew talked about his grief stricken reaction to The Queen's death on Monday's Good Morning Britain, telling hosts Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard: "I've been asking myself ever since that, how embarrassed do I feel? Because, after all, we're all meant to be professional broadcasters, we hold it together, we do the thing."
Reflecting on how he felt the moment was caught up with his own personal grief, Andrew continued: "It was a huge moment, but what was going through my mind was the death of my father two years ago. I think for a lot of people had that kind of connection with something that had happened in their lives and in a weird way, because The Queen and the Royal Family are so far away from us, we have a strong personal, emotional connection to that family."
