Former Aberdeen forward Theo ten Caat sees similarities in Andrew Considine's contract debacle to a mistake he made at a similar age when leaving FC Twente.
Considine, who has made 569 appearances for the Dons, is on his way out of the club having failed to reach an agreement on a new deal.
Ten Caat spent three years with the Pittodrie club between 1991 and 1994, and insists the veteran defender shouldn't let pride get in the way of any decision over his future.
He also believes fans should take action when Aberdeen host Ross County on Saturday in the final match before the Scottish Premiership split.
"I hope for Andy, that he will accept the offer Aberdeen FC made. I made the same mistake leaving FC Twente in the same situation when I was 34. Pride can let you make mistakes. Aberdeen FC youth need your knowledge", Ten Caat tweeted.
He then added in a message to the fans: "Make a statement next home game, towards Andy and towards Aberdeen FC. Get the banners out."
Considine has not played since suffering cruciate knee ligament damage against Qarabag in August.
Dons boss Jim Goodwin confirmed Record Sport ’s exclusive on Wednesday over the 35-year-old's future in a curious statement that revealed what the player had been offered, although stopped short of the full details.
Goodwin’s address verified the original contract offer had been revoked and Considine will move on in the summer, ending a 18-year first-team affiliation with the North-East club.
