Detectives are continuing their searches of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's former home in Berkshire on Friday following his release from custody after his arrest.
Andrew was released under investigation on Thursday evening after being arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office earlier in the day.
Thames Valley Police made the arrest following allegations made against the former prince after the release of millions of pages of files related to paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The former prince, who is the first senior royal in modern history to be arrested, was held in custody for around 11 hours before he was released under investigation.
He was pictured slumped in the back of a black Range Rover as he left Aylesham Police Station just after 7pm.
Thames Valley Police previously said the force was reviewing allegations that a woman was trafficked to the UK by Epstein to have a sexual encounter with Andrew, and claims he shared sensitive information with the paedophile while serving as the UK's trade envoy.
Meanwhile it has been claimed the disgraced ex-duke could be forced to speak to police as part of their investigation.
Reacting to news of his brother’s arrest, King Charles voiced his “deepest concern”, adding: “Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.”

In a statement issued on Friday afternoon, the force said: "Following the further release of millions of court documents relating to Jeffrey Epstein by the United States Department of Justice, we are aware of the suggestion that London airports may have been used to facilitate human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
"We are assessing this information and are actively seeking further detail from law enforcement partners, including those in the United States.
"Separately, the Met is identifying and contacting former and serving officers who may have worked closely, in a protection capacity, with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
"They have been asked to consider carefully whether anything they saw or heard during that period of service may be relevant to our ongoing reviews and to share any information that could assist us.
"While we are aware of the extensive media reporting and commentary about this matter, as of today, no new criminal allegations have been made to the Met regarding sexual offences said to have occurred within our jurisdiction. We continue to urge anyone with new or relevant information to come forward. All allegations will be taken seriously and, as with any matter, any information received will be assessed and investigated where appropriate.
"The action outlined above is independent of investigations or assessment work being carried out by other forces. We are working with the national coordination group which has been set up to bring together affected forces to ensure consistency of approach, including access to appropriate expertise and guidance."
The scene at Sandringham
16:09 , Tom PlaceDespite the search at Sandringham concluding yesterday, there has remained a large police and public presence.
Dozens of journalists remained outside an entrance to Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate this morning, with uniformed officers looking on as they stood next to a wall by the churchyard at St Peter church in Wolferton.

One person walking in the Royal Parkland at Sandringham said news of Andrew ’s arrest was “stomach-churning”.
The dog walker, who preferred to remain anonymous, said: “I think the more you have that the ordinary people don’t get, the more money or privilege, the more you’ve got to have wisdom.
“There’s an onus and a duty, and you expect them to honour them, to be honourable, and so when you hear things like that about a member of the royal family, it’s stomach-churning.”

A couple walking on the estate said: “They’ve made it quite clear they don’t want to stand by his side.
“I think William is taking over the reins more so, ready for when he takes over. I think probably a lot of things will change.”

15:49 , Tom PlaceThe Princess Royal has continued with engagements today, visiting a crisp factory in Sheffield.

The scene in Windsor Great Park
14:51 , Tom PlacePolice are continuing their search at Royal Lodge, Andrew’s former home, while a wedding took place at a chapel in Windsor Great Park this afternoon.
The Royal Chapel of All Saints, which is less than 500ft (150m) away from the residence, was used as a place of worship by Queen Elizabeth II, and one of Andrew’s daughters, Princess Beatrice, got married there.

Members of the media remain gathered outside the gates, while a helicopter has circled overhead, with some members of the public commenting on its disruptive noise.
A dog walker named Ben, who lives near Royal Lodge, was asked what it has been like to have the former prince as a neighbour in Windsor, replying: “He’s not popular. But he’s not popular anywhere, is he?”
Another man, Rob, said the royal family should have acted on the accusations against Andrew earlier.
Rob said: “They left it far too long. He’s paid the price. The British law is going to sort it out.
Andrew's place in the line of succession
14:19 , Tom PlaceQuestions have been raised regarding Andrew’s place in the royal line of succession following his arrest yesterday.
Liberal Democrats leader Ed Davey has said the question of succession is an "issue that Parliament is going to have to consider".
Davey said: "Clearly this is an issue that Parliament is going to have to consider when the time is right, naturally the monarchy will want to make sure he can never become king."
Despite being stripped of his royal titles in October, Andrew remains eighth in line of succession to the throne.
He could be removed from the line of succession, but that would require an act of Parliament being passed, and such legislation would also require the support of all Commonwealth countries that have King Charles as their head of state.
Sarah Ferguson could be forced to speak to the police
12:50 , Tom PlaceSarah Ferguson, Andrew’s ex-wife, could be forced to speak to police as part of their investigation, it has been claimed.
A source told the Mail: “She wants to get out there and start earning money again. I can’t see how she’s going to do it. Her brand is toxic.
“Her best hope of a money-spinner is a tell-all book about how her family’s friendship with Epstein has destroyed everything and left the monarchy in crisis, but she’s ruled that out apparently.
“Besides she might end up having to tell that story to the police.”
It is not currently know where Ferguson is, but she is understood to have left the country.
Polanski calls for 'full statutory inquiry'
12:44 , Tom PlaceGreen Party leader Zack Polanski has said there should be a full statutory inquiry following Andrew’s arrest.
Asked about Andrew while campaigning in Gorton, Greater Manchester, Polanski said: “I think it’s pretty awful. I think there are lots of questions to be asked.
“We obviously need to wait for the legal process to make its way, but I would say we really need a full statutory inquiry into public figures from institutions, where crimes have been committed - if they’ve been committed - what we knew, what other people in those institutions knew and, where necessary, to make sure that the appropriate people are removed.”
Asked about the monarchy, he added: “The monarchy are doing a pretty good job in themselves of not having their proudest moments over various issues we’ve seen in the last couple of years and, when the public are ready to have that national conversation about the monarchy, I think issues like this certainly don’t help the monarchy’s case.”

Speaking on the Guardian’s Australian Politics podcast, Albanese said that Andrew had come from a position of absolute privilege.
“To see this decline and fall is extraordinary.”

The story behind the photo
09:14 , Tom PlaceReuters photographer Phil Noble is the man who captured the viral image of Andrew leaving Aylsham Police Station yesterday evening.
Manchester-based Noble drove six hours to Norfolk to try to get the shot, heading to the station in Aylsham after following a tip.
After hours passed without a sign of the former prince, Noble started packing up to head to a hotel, before getting a call from Reuters video journalist Marissa Davison that Andrew’s cars had arrived.
Racing back, Noble saw the two vehicles leaving at high speed, so aimed his camera and flash at the second car.
He took six frames in all - two showing police, two blank, and one out of focus - but one captured Andrew, and has since been seen around the world.

Noble hadn't had the chance to look closely at Andrew's expression - he was just relieved it was him.
Noble said: “You can plan and use your experience and know roughly what you need to do, but still everything needs to align. When you're doing car shots it's more luck than judgment.”
“It was a proper old school news day, a guy being arrested, who can we call, tracking him down.”
Davey wants more 'transparency'
08:51 , Tom PlaceLiberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey has said that Parliament has an important role to play in how the monarchy operates.
Appearing on BBC Breakfast, Davey said: “We can’t say too much because of the police investigation, but I think we should have in our minds the survivors, the victims of Epstein, who are having to look at all this reporting and possibly reliving their traumas.
“So it is quite a shocking situation. Let the police do their work.”
He added: “I think more broadly, going forward, we do need to see more transparency, and Parliament has a really important role to play, and I think we need to, you know, sort of help the monarchy get over this – it’s a really important part of our country – and the way that, I think, will go forward, is having more transparency over how they operate.”

“I think it’s a shame. I think it’s very sad. I think it’s so bad for the royal family. It’s very, very sad. To me, it’s a very sad thing. When I see that, it’s a very sad thing.
“To see that and to see everything that’s going on with his brother, who is coming to our country very soon, the king, so I think it’s a very sad thing.”

Police 'don't have enough evidence yet to charge Andrew'
07:32 , Matt WattsFormer Old Bailey judge Wendy Joseph KC has explained why police have chosen to release Andrew under investigation.
She told Times Radio: “The options they had last night were to charge him, and they clearly didn't believe they had sufficient evidence to actually charge him, or release him on police bail, which might have involved conditions of residence and various other conditions, or to do what they have actually done, which is to release him under investigation, which means he has no fixed date for return.”
She also highlighted the challenges of prosecuting someone for misconduct in public office.
“In essence, as a public officer, you must be doing something you know or very strongly suspect is a wrong thing to do, and it must be so serious that it, in effect, undermines or is an abuse of public trust in you as that officer, and you must have no reasonable excuse or justification,” she explained.
“So you see, it's quite a complex thing to set about proving.”
Further searches to take place at Royal Lodge
07:02 , Matt WattsDetectives will continue their searches of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's former home in Berkshire following his release from custody after he was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

“The former prince should have been stripped of his titles and roles as quickly as possible – it was a mistake for the Labour Government to delay action.”
Flynn insisted that Starmer should stop any delays and bring forward legislation to remove Peter Mandelson’s titles, peerage and taxpayer-funded payout and pension.
He added: “There is no excuse for further delays and inaction from the Labour Government.
“Most important of all we must remember that it was the brave victims of Jeffrey Epstein that have shone a light on all of this. Without the bravery of these women much of this information may never have come to light. They deserve justice.”

What is misconduct in public office?
Thursday 19 February 2026 12:13 , Sami QuadriMisconduct in public office can result in a maximum life sentence.
To be guilty, the individual must have been performing official duties when the offence occurred. The person must have deliberately acted improperly, with their behaviour falling "so far below acceptable standards that it amounts to an abuse of the public's trust".
An example would be a corrections officer taking payment to share intelligence with an inmate regarding the location of the inmate's ex-criminal partners.
The Crown Prosecution Service needs assurance the evidence presents a reasonable chance of securing a guilty verdict, plus confirmation the case serves the public interest.
Annual convictions for this offence range from 25 to 50, with substantial custodial sentences typically handed down in most instances.
