Andreas Christensen handed brutal truth over future as Thomas Tuchel finds £54m replacement

Thomas Tuchel has stepped closer towards solving Chelsea's mass defensive exodus this summer, after the Blues reportedly arrange a meeting with Real Madrid defender Eder Militao.

The 24-year-old centre-half, who is under contract at the Bernabeu until 2025, is subject to interest from the world champions as Tuchel remains eager to sign the £54m-rated Brazil international, according to Marca, via TeamTalk.

Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger each see their current deals in west London expire at the end of the season, making the Chelsea duo available via free transfer in the summer.

Neither are yet to extend their futures with the Blues however, while the Dane has broken several agreements with Chelsea, the door remains open for the Germany international having not moved the goalposts amid negotiations.

Anita Abayomi was joined by football.london's Chelsea correspondent Adam Newson live on the Carefree Chelsea 'Back Page' show to delve into Christensen's uncertain future at the club.

Newson kickstarted the discussion by outlining his thoughts on the Dane centre-halves contract saga before delivering his honest verdict on the situation.

"It'd definitely on the back-burner because as far as Chelsea are concerned they've agreed a deal with Christensen twice only for it not to be signed," he said

"I think Chelsea at this stage are looking at other options - they don't want to get burned a third time. Christensen has new representation and they wanted to essentially start from scratch again but Chelsea were not willing to do that.

"Understandably, given they put so much work in previously to get two versions of a contract that Christensen was said to be happy with and then not signed.

"It's looking more likely than not that Christensen will move on in the summer, which is a shame just because he has been very good over the past year. But, out of the two centre-backs in terms of ready to go, I think my priority would now be Rudiger just because of the level he's he's reached."

Singing from the same hymn sheet, Abayomi explained what why Christensen's bridge has burned in west London as the Blues regather their thoughts ahead what could be an exciting summer transfer window.

"I don't have nice words for Christensen," she said. "All I'm saying is there are 100 Christensens out there and there's only one Antonio Rudiger."
