Manchester United have allowed David de Gea's contract to expire and may have to move to replace him in the transfer market.
The Spaniard is technically no longer a United player, although he still appears on the club's website. It would be a sad way for the 12-year servant to bow out at Old Trafford.
MEN Sport understands the Reds are on the lookout for a new first choice this summer and on Wednesday, De Gea added further speculation when he tweeted a yawning emoji. While it is unclear what this is referencing, some believe it could be referring to the long negotiation process De Gea and his current club have been embroiled in.

Here's a look at who United could be seeking to bring in as his replacement.
Andre Onana
A sensible and exciting option for the Reds is Inter Milan's first choice Onana. The Cameroonian was a star asset for Simone Inzaghi's men as they reached the final of the Champions League.
Erik ten Hag is a big fan of the 'keeper having worked with him at Ajax. Onana has been praised for his ability to play out from the back, a skill which De Gea lacks, and conceded just 36 goals in 41 appearances last term.
Inter CEO Beppe Marotta confirmed United have made known their interest in goalkeeper Andre Onana although they are yet to table a formal offer. Speaking to Sky Italia at the Gran Gala on Friday, he said: “Manchester United have expressed an interest (in Onana) which may or may not lead to an offer in the next few days. Once that happens, both Inter and the player will carefully assess it.”
Justin Bijlow
United have made contact with Feyenoord over a possible deal for Justin Bijlow, according to the Athletic. Erik ten Hag wants a goalkeeper that can play out from the back and is an admirer of Bijlow from his time in charge of Ajax.
The 25-year-old is expected to cost considerably less than Andre Onana, with United having to bear in mind Financial Fair Play constraints. It is not the first time Ten Hag has looked to the Eredivisie to bolster his squad.
If United are forced to work to a budget, the Feyenoord goalkeeper could be a good solution. How much they spend on a goalkeeper will be dictated by their pursuit of a striker and the funds they can raise through sales.
Kevin Trapp
Manchester United will intensify their pursuit of a first-choice goalkeeper in the coming days and reported target Kevin Trapp has already hinted he would consider a transfer offer.
As such, the Mirror reported on Saturday evening that interest in Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Trapp has been rekindled. The German international was linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer and admitted he was flattered by the contact.
"As I said during my first spell at Frankfurt, it’s always nice when rumours like this come out," said Trapp of the links to United last August. "It’s a nice acknowledgement. But I can’t say anything about it."
Diogo Costa
Porto's goalkeeper has earned a lot of admiring glances thanks to his performances. Costa conceded just 30 goals in 41 appearances last term. United also know exactly how much they will need to spend too with a release clause of approximately £75m in his contract.
Reports from 90min claim the 'keeper is being offered to Premier League clubs, including United and Chelsea, as the Portuguese side sweat over their Financial Fair Play (FFP) status. Ironically though, FFP could be what derails this approach for United.
Indeed, Correio da Manhã reports today that while United previously expressed interest in the Portuguese shot-stopper, they will instead look to sign Onana this summer.
Djordje Petrovic
A wildcard option of sorts, the Manchester Evening News understands Petrovic is a target for Ten Hag this summer. United's scouts are believed to be watching him play but have yet to submit an official bid.
It is worth noting the 23-year-old Serbian would not be signed as a direct replacement for De Gea straightaway, rather an inclusion to add depth to the squad. Liverpool have previously been linked with a move for Petrovic.
He has already been given the seal of approval by Wayne Rooney too after the United legend named him in his MLS All-Stars team to take on Arsenal next month.
David Raya
The most unlikely option of the potential new arrivals is Brentford's Raya. He has made no secret about wanting a fresh challenge as he heads into his final year at the London club and Thomas Frank has come to terms with him leaving.
But, his price tag in excess of £40m could be the sticking point. MEN Sport understands the Spaniard's most likely destination was Tottenham but they signed Empoli's Guglielmo Vicario for £17.2m and it is believed he is the replacement for Hugo Lloris.
With Spurs likely to be out of the race, Raya could be staying put with United more likely to splash the cash on Onana than him. But, as a free transfer next summer, the 27-year-old may be worth the gamble.
Bart Verbruggen
MEN Sport understands Erik ten Hag is interested in adding the 20-year-old to his squad and became a fan after he received his maiden call-up to the Netherlands squad in April. He has just won Anderlecht's player of the season award for a season in which he made 37 appearances for the Belgian club, conceding 45 goals and amassing 13 clean sheets in the process.
