TIRUPATI: Anantapur district police wing arrested a six member interstate thieves gang and recovered Rs 50 lakh worth stolen property including gold and silver ornaments along with three bikes on Wednesday.
According to Anantapur SP Dr Kaginelli Fakeerappa, the six notorious accused were identified as Sheik Ilyaz (34), Yerukala Kavadi Nagendra (34), Sheik Nizam (27), Sheik Imran (25), B Balji (22), and Yerukala Sake Ramanjaneyulu (45).
Dr Kaginelli Fakeerappa underlined that the six accused were most wanted criminals who have pending cases against them in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka.
"It is not just the gang but their family members are also involved in multiple theft cases reported in Anantapur district in recent times. The gang is also accused of luring minors and unemployed youngsters into thefts and have been converting them into criminals at a young age by promising them easy money", Anantapur SP added.
Police recovered 955 grams of gold ornaments, 2 kgs of silver articles and three bikes worth Rs.50 lakh from the possession of the accused.
Anantapur SP appreciated the efforts put in by Penukonda DSP N Ramya and her team in securing the arrest of the six notorious thieves besides ensuring the recovery of the stolen property.
