Andhra Pradesh: Loot by middlemen, crop loss make mango farmers worried lot

VIJAYAWADA: Mango farmers in Eluru and NTR districts are losing margins due to the involvement of middlemen. While exporters are offering around ₹1.2 lakh per tonne of Rasalu mangoes, farmers are able to get only ₹45,000 per tonne.

The farmers are facing a tough time this season. Leaf curl and viral infections have badly impacted the crop yield. Officials of the horticulture department observed that rains in November and December had severe impact on the crop besides leaf curl. They estimated yield loss to be around 45 per cent this year on average in Nuzvid and Tiruvuru divisions.
