Andhra Pradesh govt vows action against managements of factories flouting safety norms

AMARAVATI: The state government on Thursday said that there is no complacency in acting against errant managements of factories who are not following safety protocols.

The government said that safety of employees and people living in the vicinity of the factories, which deal with hazardous materials in manufacturing process is paramount to the government and they are closely monitored. "We have slapped show-cause notices on managements of 380 factories for failing to implement the recommendations of the high-level committee," principal secretary (labour, employment, factories and boilers) G Anantha Ramu told TOI.

Managements of 111 firms face prosecution

He said they have launched prosecution against the managements of 111 firms, which had not complied with the directives. He said recommendations of the high-power committee on LG Polymers were communicated to managements concerned and compliance was followed up.

"A special drive was undertaken in accordance with orders of the government and about 1,300 factories in the state using the hazardous chemicals were inspected by a team of authorities from factories, APPCB, AP fire and disaster response, electrical inspectorate, boilers and industries department under the chairmanship of joint collectors," said Anantha Ramu.

He said about 390 show-cause notices were issued based on compliance levels found in the drive and 111 prosecutions were launched against the erring managements which have not come up to the expected level of compliance.

He said the constitution of district crisis groups (DCGs) under the chairmanship of collectors was completed in all erstwhile districts. He said that constitution of local crisis groups (LCG) in all revenue divisions wherein hazardous factories are situated was also completed.

"The meetings of both DCGs and LCGs are being held and minutes are being recorded. Webinars on safety capacity building, safety committee meetings, emergency mock drills are being held regularly," said Anantha Ramu.
