Andhra Pradesh: Government Medical College Guntur gets 3 plastic surgery seats

AMARAVATI: National Medical Council (NMC) has allotted three seats in super specialty wing of plastic surgery department-MCh-stream to Government Medical College (GMC), Guntur. The seats will be filled through national level counseling under NEET to be held in September.

GMC is the only government medical college in the state to have three seats for plastic surgery. “We got three PG seats in plastic surgery department for the first-time,” said principal Dr C Padmavathi Devi.

GMC got plastic surgery department about 30 years ago but was confined to handling a few surgeries.

Sources said NMC team took note of the number of surgeries being handled at the GGH affiliated to the GMC before making a strong case for grant of three PG seats. “We are handling almost 80 to 90 surgeries per month, the highest in any department. Plastic surgery department is giving a second life to the victims of mishaps,” said Dr Sumitha Shankar.
