Andhra Pradesh: Gas leakage in workers' quarters injures 13 in Vizianagaram

VIZIANAGARAM: At least 13 workers were injured in a fire accident caused due to gas leakage in workers’ quarters in Berry Ferro Alloys factory in Growth Center at Bobbili in the late night of Friday.

All the victims belong to Bihar and are working in the Ferro Alloys factory. Among the injured, the condition of three workers is said to be very serious.

According to the police, the workers are employees of the Berry factory. At the time of the incident, all the employees were in deep sleep. They work in the morning shift and take rest in a quarter in the premises of the factory. The gas leaked from the cylinder spread all over the room and caused a fire mishap.

Workers alleged that there was no ventilator in the room and gas spread all over. All the 13 workers in the room received burn injuries and were shifted to a private hospital in Vizianagaram by the management.

The injured were identified as Rambabu, Nitish Kumar, Sahil Kumar, Dharmendra, Syam, Ranjan Ram, Sonu Singh, Satish Kumar, Aravind Kumar, Shibodh Kumar, and Kundan Kumar. Of which, the condition of Sahil, Dharmendra, and Sonu is said to be critical.

Workers alleged that the quarters constructed for the workers of other states have no ventilators. They say that these conditions of rooms are posing a threat to the lives of the workers as witnessed in the fire mishap that was caused due to the spreading of the gas all over the room. Bobbili Cops are investigating the case.
