Call it science or a mere belief, many people believe in consulting an almanac (panchangam) before taking up any important work, and go to meet astrologers to fix ‘muhurtam’. Due to heavy demand, astrologers have become so busy that sometimes people don’t get appointment for months.
Many people make rounds to the astrologer, vedic pundits and priests, who fix ‘muhurtams’ after going through the ‘panchangam’.
Chilakamarti Prabhakar Chakravarthy Sarma, an engineer-cum-astrologer, has written ‘panchangam’ in English for people to go through it easily. He was the first persons to have written South Indian English Panchangam a few years ago.
Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy recently released the English panchangam. Union Minister of Tourism and Culture G. Kishen Reddy recently presented an award to Mr. Sarma for his literary works on tourism, astrology, panchangam, vaastu and pushkarams.
“Astrologers and purohits fix the muhurtam after going through the date of birth, thithi, horoscope, positions of the planets and give predictions. My English ‘panchangam’ will help the people, particularly the younger generations a lot,” said Mr. Sarma, who is presently working with an MNC in New Delhi.
An M.Tech graduate and a mechanical engineer by profession, the astrologer has penned many books on ‘vaastu sastra’, astrology, Indian temples, traditions, rivers and on ‘Godavari Pushkarams’. He completed B. Tech in Khammam district, M. Tech in Dehradun and graduated in ‘Jyothisya Kovida’ and ‘Dharma Shastra Kovida’ courses from Sanskrit Patasala in Bhadrachalam.
“Reading Panchangam is an art. The south Indian English almanac will be helpful to the software professionals to fix ‘muhurtams’ to join in jobs, go abroad and find auspicious days for gruhapravesams. My works are available on www.chilakarmarthi.com, www.southindianastrology.org,” Mr. Sarma, a native of Rajahmundry, told The Hindu.
He received ‘Jyothishya Maartanda’ award and ‘Vaastu Vidya Visarada’ title from Tirumala Peetam for his literary works. Mr. Sarma has delivered lectures on Indian tradition and culture in India and abroad.
